[Worldwide Koi Club] Koi not eating and hiding
Actualy here is a description of my present filter system.
I have a pump of 3,600GPH that sits at the lowest point in my pond. This pump then pumps the water up into the top of a container that is roughly 30″ long and 12 to 15″ wide. When it goes into the filter the top layer is Poly Quilting material. The three layers below that are of various densities of Matilda Filter batting. each 1 1/2 : thick.
The bottom of the filter is perferorated and the water smoothly flows out the bottom into the top part of my stream which then flows into my pond.
When I started adding the polyfoam quilting about two weeks ago it was clogging up and causing a back flow over the top at least twice a day. Now it is running clean and needs to be cleaned about once every two or three days. It also changed my water from an algea green to a crystal clearity, by removing all the free floating algea and other particles.
The only pond I have seen cleaner than this was one that I put in for a party about 3 years ago. That pond is basicly 24′ X 36′ with the deepest part 6′ but at least 1/2 of is at 18″ deep. They are running a diatomic earth filter with a 1 1/4 HP motor. While in the spring when they first turn the pump on it lookls like a mud bowl but within a week it is always crystal clear.
