[Worldwide Koi Club] I Think I Need Advice

Dear Lorraine,
The filter was dismantled and cleaned this evening and as you suggested, it was beyond disgusting. I’m REALLY glad I had the weight of yours and Kim’s advice to persuade Malcolm to do this job because he was able to see for himself that he was dead wrong about the filter. It was a sludgy slimy mess.
Anyway, the fish now have a clean filter, a 1/3 water change, a bubbler and airstone, fresh salt and a delicious dinner under their belts and they look fabulous. I’m still worried about Tubby’s sore and will watch it carefully over the next few days, but the water quality will definitely have been improved and this should help his healing considerably. Thank you so much for this common-sense advice.
By the way, isn’t it off that none of the other fish have shown any signs of ulceration? Could it be Tubby’s excessive size that made him prone to this infection? He really is a beauty, or he was before he got into the ring with Rocky Balboa. Now he’s just big with ‘character’.
Brenda
P.S. This spring, once the boys and girls have gone back outside, I’ll clean their indoor rocks with the pressure washer. I’ll also check the specifications on the filter, just to reassure myself that it IS big enough for the basin it’s supposedly cleaning.
