Guppy tragedy…

Ok since my son received some guppies from his grandma the males have been just evil. We made sure to go get some more females so it was a 1 male to 3 female ratio give or take a few. He had a total of 13 guppies. The males have killed ALL the females twice […]

[Ponds-Koi] Fireants at pondside

Do you own a big wet-vac or shop-vac? I’d be tempted to suck up the mounds after putting some liquid ant killer in the wet-vac reservoir first. You could even leave the pesticide in the reservoir for a couple of days and work on the mounds every day or twice a day since […]

I think it would be wise for you to remove the koi from your pond […]

Koi not eating and hiding

1. Amonia high amonia levels are quick killers of fish. Incoming water from fish that have just shipped are usualy vvery high in amonia which is why they need to taken out of the shipping water as soon as possible.
2. pH pH that is […]

Don,
I’ve tried barley straw and barley extract and neither made in reduction in algae that I could see. All that was cured only when I installed the UV.

green water

If you can, … You should add substantially more bio-filtration to your filter system. If you have enough bio-filtration, the algae won’t be a problem. If you do add more bio-filtration, it will take a little time before the added filtration becomes colonized enough (with beneficial bacteria) to show much difference in the […]

Johnny,
All the chemical algae killers are not good for fish especially because you have to keep using them again and again. Keeping chemicals out of the water is a priority. UV filter is only safe non- toxic effective solution I know of.
