Something *ate* my filter media?!?

I just wanted to post an update on this…
I got the supplies (they took quite a bit longer than I thought with the web order) and got right to cutting the poly-pad. It is *very* nice, thick material, especially compared to the biobag I was using! I was able to make a continuous […]

[AquaticLife] Fry divider for tank

While I’ve used the hang on tank net as an in tank time-out for an aggressive male zebra danio, I wasn’t impressed with the water flow through the nets. I saw where bubbles were building up under the bottom of the net. If the net would stop small air bubbles from going through the net, […]

Koi not eating and hiding

Well had a interesting day today. Yesterday added some salt, not enough as specified but used all I had. I also put some limestone rocks in to help the PH. Today I didn’t have time to catch one of the ailing koi to inspect it, so I put my second pump on to add a […]

pump question

Re- [Ponds-Koi] WATER?!? YEH, RIGHT!

According to Hach’s own website, their test strips are only “semi-quantitative” compared to their other testing kits and meters. “Semi” being the operative word.. meaning half.. like they’re only half right. So if you test twice, one of the strips is accurate.. but which one? Should you then do best out of […]

Re- [Ponds-Koi] WATER?!? YEH, RIGHT!

I have used test strips for many years, and have had the opportunity to compare them with the “more accurate” “more expensive” drop test kits. I have found the Hach test strips to be very very accurate and I would rank them as an equal to the drop tests in most cases. […]

[AquaticLife] All natural fish treatments?

I had read a lot about salt, but hadn’t realized heat. It makes sense though because different bacteria have different temperature preferences.
I’ve read a lot of conflicting info about how much salt to use. I […]
