A neighbor across the street set up a tank this past summer and she is battling brown algae. I don’t want to give her any wrong advice. I thought maybe it was from over feeding, but I looked it up and these are the causes

It’s not your fault you didn’t know about the tank size. If you want to keep the goldies, a 50 gallon or so doesn’t have to cost that much:-) and it’s gorgeous with big goldfish in it.
