I would have no problems selling the young angel’s (or any young fish I happen to breed if he wants them) to the LFS. I think there would be a better market in gourami’s or pleco’s (especially the dwarf pleco’s as they only order the sailfin pleco’s) though, as neither arrive here […]

The gravel should be in the tank with the fish and filtration… unless the “another tank” refers to another fish stocked tank. The nitrifying bacteria needs the ammonia from the fish and decaying detritus as the starting food for the nitrogen cycle.
Technically, used gravel right out of a running tank and then put in […]

Wen surgery, which is only needed in rare situations, while it can be done by the hobbyist, is best left to a veterinarian or at least a hobbyist with experience. You wouldn’t have to worry about the fish wiggling since it would be under anesthesia (usually clove oil solution for the hobbyist). Do […]

First, a brackish water tank will naturally have a higher pH than your other tanks simply by the nature of the water. You do not say how you are making the water brackish, the specific gravity of the water in your brackish tank is OK. You should use a good quality marine salt, as you […]

I started a brackish water tank with a 3/4″ bumblebee goby and a 1.5″ male guppy. They are in a 10 gallon tank. It has a small rock cave and a couple of plastic plants and a 5″ long piece of black rigid tube from an old canister filter (use as a […]

The only reason I am hesitant to breed anything more than simple guppies is because my LFS (well the owner rather) is rather… umm… profit orientated only, which means for me to sell any of my babies to him I would have to basically beat his wholesalers prices. Not to mention I […]

It’s mapped out and ready to be dug in March or so! It’s 12′ by 25, and 3′ deep, two waterfall features and an oriental style walkbridge over a narrower portion. I’m still going round and round with the designer about an area I want to do and he thinks I’m nuts. (I […]

Remember that you can use Prime as a dechlor which also will treat that low level of ammonia but once your tank is fully cycled, when doing your normal PWC’s, you would only be introducing 0.125ppm or less of ammonia with each PWC which would immediately be converted via the nitrogen cycle in your running […]

By in front of I meant closest to the outtake on the filter, after re-reading my post I thought it may sound confusing.

On a side note I thought I would let people know that the 10 gallon kits that walmart sells now have a little “bio” insert in front of the normal cartridge so that you can just remove the carbon and not hurt your beneficial bacteria residing on the 2nd cartridge (looks like […]
