[AquaticLife] German Blue Ram Breeding

What is the red/orange and white thing stuck to the front of the tank? What is the black/white spotted thing by the Ram’s slate.. an empty snail shell?
You might want to put a night light on near that end so the parents can keep a better eye on any predators. Was that an […]

Angelfish laying eggs

I agree about computers being like socks, LOL. I get computer withdrawls if mine is out of commission for awhile. As far as a comparison between Angel’s and Ram’s… My Angel’s remind me of sharks, they lay in wait for their prey, I sometimes imagine the “Jaws themesong” playing when they’re hunting for […]

[AquaticLife] Ye Olde Medicine Cabinet

Your typo of “dissuasion” (I think you meant discussion) is a very nice Freudian Slip… since most of us should be dissuaded from keeping too many meds on hand as most of them would go out of date before you ever use them.
Other than keeping salt in your kitchen cupboard, there’s not much use […]

[AquaticLife] Photo tips wanted…

\Steve// wrote a long post about taking fish pics a while back that I saved in my favorites folder.

[Ponds-Koi] Black goldfish

Here’s an article I have in my favorites folder that goes through the scientific reasons for the color changing that happens in goldfish. http://thegab.org/Articles/ColorChange.html
The one thing I don’t think this article covers is Melanophore Migration which is part of the tissue repair for fish that may have been injured or have a skin disease/issue. http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/Melanophore%20Migration.html

[Ponds-Koi] Foam and clear Water

You should probably sell or give away all of your babies. Five goldfish is pushing the limits on a 250G pond…. or maybe it’s time to make a bigger pond.
If all you have is 12 or so fry, then that is likely the cause of your foam. Dozens of them were eaten as […]

books

Myron, As Steve already mentioned, the Baensch Aquarium Atlas, Volume I is well recommended, but I would like to add a couple of other excellent pieces of aquarium literature which I’m sure you’d find extremely useful. Since you mentioned “bible,” it was the Dr. William T. Innes book (in […]

[AquaticLife] algae

Hi Shari,
Here’s a few pages I have in my favorites with lots of pictures of various algae. If you don’t see it on these, it may not be algae. It could be a type of mold or fungi which commonly will grow on wood in aquaria.
