[AquaticLife] Im sorry I have ADHD! brackish water set up

Turbocoupe76 said… among other things: “…I was told that running a fast current in a tank helps bring up the PH because it makes the Limestone(buffer) that the county LI, NY puts in the water, evaporate. Is this true???…”
Limestone would buffer up the water and increase hardness allowing the pH to increase or at least […]

All the reports from the various suppliers around here will at least reference the use of chloramines, if not show an actual average measurement.

\Steve//,
My Parish (same as County in other States) uses Chloramine but the annual water report still references chlorine since that is all the EPA requires. See my blog about “Chlorine - Chloramine Information” for actual emails between me and the chemists at the utility and their explanation.

[AquaticLife] Power Outages and effect on good bacteria

Sizing a UPS can be a lot of fun. If you buy a 750, most people assume it can handle 750 watts, however, UPS’s are really measured in volt-amps. You can look and look on your electronics or other appliances, and not find a volt-amp measurement anywhere. There is a white paper that kind of […]

[AquaticLife] Connecting Fish Tanks?

Yes, I thought the comments were “entertainingly stupid” myself, that is why I sort of skimmed them, and found the two that mentioned where the photos were taken.

[AquaticLife] Connecting Fish Tanks?

Harl,
If you were talking about all the blog comments, you’re right.. I didn’t read very many of them. Light fixture flickering after Hurricane Dolly power outage

Hi Giancarlo,
Thanks very much for replying.
I have a single linear strip, 30 inch 65W straight pin Aqualight for planted freshwater tanks. The fixture is nearly 2 years old with the original tube so I suppose the tube may have worn out. I’ve hardly ever done anything with electrical wiring so am feeling a bit intimidated […]

I know another pump question

Dave, thanks. Your explanation makes sense to me now and the website link was helpful. I’m gonna have to rethink some stuff in our pond because I’ve been calculating head wrong - may end up putting too much water through our biofilter.

[AquaticLife] Breaking Down the Tank-Need Advise

You can clean the very dirty gravel with fresh water, just treat with dechlorinator first.
If you are too energetic with the gravel, you will kill the bio filter. I’d probably siphon out as much crud as possible in your bucket, adding clean water treated with dechlor as required. And then maybe a swish […]

[AquaticLife] Breaking Down the Tank-Need Advise

Yes Dora, I am planning to take everything apart. The only goal is to remove the polyster forever “see my previous message for further explanation”. I’m sure that the water will turn BLACK, not just brownish, when I pull the polyster out. And the gravel will probably be impossible to clean with the […]
