Snail snafu

Yes Lenny that is what it looks like. It mostly happens to the larger snails. It is probably like mentioned, the bigger foot making it have more of a suction and the snails being sucked in. I have had to pull the snail (shredded) out of the intake. Not nice believe me. […]

Snail snafu

I have lost a number of adult mystery snails to the intake filter. I have a fluval canister on the tank that this happened to and I had to put a sponge pre filter on it to avoid this problem. Pam

Snail snafu

Yes, good point. I don’t think Sunny (the Snail) has been sick; she certainly was moving about and seemed happy; there did not seem to be anything unusual going on though, well, snails aren’t exactly easy to read. I think she’s in shock and at the bottom of the tank, and […]

[AquaticLife] An experiment has started…

Thanks Len,   Just checking on the “mechanics” of exactly how the stuff works.   ps—–the 29 in up and flying.  Direct transfer of everything including filter media, from the 5-gallon hex to it.  All is fine……….so far!   Bill

Im sorry I have ADHD! brackish water set up

Be careful of advise from your LFS… if they don’t even know what’s in your local water… or maybe you just got an ill-informed employee.
This thread has been trimmed too much but if I remember right, your FW tanks had a pH of 7.2… right? If your 48 hour baseline is only coming […]

Hey Len? Its about plants

Hi Len,   Posting here rather than direct in case someone else needs the help on the same issue.  I could have sworn that you gave a link for Plant Geek to search for plants by using a pH factor?????????????  I went all over their site and yes, registered for the forum, and still cannot […]

[AquaticLife] Power Outages and effect on good bacteria

Sizing a UPS can be a lot of fun. If you buy a 750, most people assume it can handle 750 watts, however, UPS’s are really measured in volt-amps. You can look and look on your electronics or other appliances, and not find a volt-amp measurement anywhere. There is a white paper that kind of […]

[AquaticLife] Power Outages and effect on good bacteria

Thanks for the tips Lenny, we have the battery backup systems on most of the other electronics (tv, cable box, computers etc), but that’s a good idea to get for the fish tanks. I’ve noticed our battery backups don’t last that long, rarely even the 20 minutes that the box says they […]
