Snail snafu

Yes Lenny that is what it looks like. It mostly happens to the larger snails. It is probably like mentioned, the bigger foot making it have more of a suction and the snails being sucked in. I have had to pull the snail (shredded) out of the intake. Not nice believe me. […]

[AquaticLife] I really messed up this time!

This is the perfect time to use cedar shakes to level the tank. If need be, the shake could go under the legs all the way to the back, then you can either break them , cut them with an X-acto knife (or score them prior to breaking), or use a coping saw to cut […]

Hmmm… is this what the intake looks like on yours? http://pet.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pPETS-4723208t400.jpg
With that kind of strainer, which is very similar to the strainers on most other filter systems, I don’t see how it’s happening. I just did a Google search and do not see where it’s very common either.

[AquaticLife] I really messed up this time!

My 55 gallon tank is lower on the right side than the left, I never thought to fix it because the problem is from my lumpy really old carpeting.

I would drain tank water into 5 gallon buckets and rehome the fish there. HOB fiter or whatever you have, make it work in the bucket.
Level the stand so the tank is level. NEVER try and shim up the tank […]

I really messed up this time!

In my excitement and enthusiasm when I got that 29-gallon tank for Christmas I forgot one very, very important thing.   Plumbing and leveling the tank!   I can’t believe an old hand like me messed up this bad, even a “rookie” would not make this mistake but there it is, as stupid as it […]

[AquaticLife] Who Was That Masked Man? Thanks Dr. Tim!

Yeah this is the worst winter I’ve seen since I was a kid, and I dont’ think that one was even that bad. So it’s been easily 15-20 years since we’ve had this much snow, especially all at once. I’m so ready for the rain to come back, at least I can […]
