[Worldwide Koi Club] Filtration

I use a Bubble Bead filter which does both mechanical and biological filtration, and the UV filter downstream of that, then the outflow goes to a waterfall which aerates the water. In my experience you need all 4 steps for a healthy pond in which chemicals are unnecessary.

Filtration

I’ve been in the pond hobby for just over 25 years and in the beginning had great difficulty in keeping my pond water clear. I used to use the upflow bio-filters which we made ourselves and found that they worked quite well, at least for a little while. After a while I found […]

[AquaticLife] Advice on large quiet air pump and chrome screw in valves

Hi Steve,
That would certainly be able to handle 70 air lines but unfortunately they make noise. I have one a size or two smaller than that and it makes a good amount of noise. If you can put it outside or in another well ventilated room it would no longer be a noise issue.

[Worldwide Koi Club] DO NOT PUT GOLDFISH OR KOI INTO THE LAKE

Hi Don,
I’m in general agreement with what you say. I certainly agree that koi and goldfish can live happily in large enough man made pools. If I didn’t I certainly wouldn’t be doing it. One just needs to be constantly aware of the conditions and look out for their […]

Tammie,
There are certainly no signs down at the lake other than the one indicating the local ‘ecologists’ have recently poisoned the lake by adding toxic herbicides. Thats the logic of ecological policy and ecological laws that you admire so much and suggest I obey so slavishly!
I’ve been dumping goldfish […]

[Worldwide Koi Club] DO NOT PUT GOLDFISH OR KOI INTO THE LAKE

Edgar, Ya know what, …. I certainly don’t agree with your assumption that koi and goldfish should never be placed in a tank or bowl. I have a seven year old grand son and nine year old grand daughter that have both koi and goldfish in an aquarium in their home. I’d be […]

Salt

Ooh.. can I help with the implosion?
In the old days… (you know when \Steve// and Ray were youngster’s.. lol) they never knew about Osmoregulation and stuff like that but they did know that salt help prevent or cure lots of things with FW fish so it was common to be added to all FW […]

[AquaticLife] Water Well Question

That certainly is good news. Now you will really know when the filter needs to be recharged .
I do have a question here though, do you have a tap between the well and the filter? This could come in handy for a water source should you decide to keep some of the South American […]

[Worldwide Koi Club] DO NOT PUT KOI ETC. …

With respect to goldfish I think this is over reactive nonsense. Ecology gone awry. It is certainly true that some other species do cause big problems however.
