They also have salt grinders, which may be more appropriate. Or, you could always use a mortar and pestle. Frankly, though, I’ve never done either when using kosher salt at the table or for cooking.

That was my reaction. I have over 250 gallons of freshwater tanks and nary an air pump. Except a battery operated one for transporting fish in a bucket, under $10.

Do you definitely need or want one?
Since you are planning on using live plants, you may not want or need one. Your tank will have plenty of water circulation, based on your filter choices, and probably have plenty of surface agitation for proper gas exchange.
