[Worldwide Koi Club] Newby with question

Hi laniers03, Ph levels should be maintained between 7.6 and 8.4. Once you get your Ph into the middle of that range, it would be a good idea if you could find some crushed oyster shells to put into your filters. Place them in a very fine net bag (panty hose works good) […]

[Worldwide Koi Club] Can someone please help this dummy lol-pump ?

thanks for the reply Edgar. The waterfall we have is only 4 1/2 foot high and the water flows a little too quickly, I think, so adding a new, deeper waterfall form (something we wanted to do from day one and add media to that too) and a ball valve might do the trick. […]

[Worldwide Koi Club] Can someone please help this dummy lol-pump ?

Barbara,
I would say you are fine. I have a CalPump 5500 with a 4000 gal pond and an 8 foot waterfall and everything works fine. You might get by on less but what counts as to too much as how long the water stays in the filter and the […]

[Worldwide Koi Club] My Koi pond Smells

You need a UV filter, it’s the only thing that will really work on a long term basis without harming fish.

[Worldwide Koi Club] Homemade Biofilter advice

If you are going to keep 60 koi in 1900 gallons you need a 3000 gallon filter.
A 1900 gallon pond with a really good filter might be good for 5 koi.

[Worldwide Koi Club] Ammonia problem

Hi Don,   You are absolutely right about that fact that we can never have “TOO MUCH biofiltration with koi in the pond.”   In my fitration system, 50% in volume is taken up by the japanese filter mattings, which is similar to matala, but are more fine and denser. The lava rocks are placed in the […]

[Worldwide Koi Club] Ammonia problem

The japanese matting is used for both mechanical and biological filter.  I have one section of the filter system of approximately 50 gal. with about 1.5 cubic foot of matting used for mechanical filtering.  Then the cleaning water flows up through basket filled with lava rocks and then to the second section of the filter […]
