Sand
I’ll second what Giancarlo has said about the canister filter. Maybe get the tank going with the whispers and then add the canister at a later date. Let the canister run for about a month then take off the Whispers. As i said in my previous post, a diatom filter will filter of the smallest micron sized particles. I use sand in my corydoras breeding tanks and once I have the sand in the tank and fill it with water, I run the diatom on it usually 2 - 3 times and it gets all the little stuff.
