Re:Water change = dying fish
Hi, Tetras and goldfish need different water conditions and goldfish are much hardier. Tetras generally need warmer water. That doesn’t sound like what killed them though, I have a friend who keeps both together without death or disease, though ultimately, neither are likely to live as long as they could. It sounds like a bacterial disease of some sort got them and the goldfish will likely recover, I doubt it was the tap water, the fish may have had it already or developed it, which is common. Tap water is generally fine unless there is something going on with your towns waters supply. I use Southern California tap water, some of the worst around! (Yes, I drink it as well). Use a dechlorinator but one that also helps rid the water of nitrates/nitrites and such. They are just a little more expensive. If the tank is heated (doesn’t need to be for goldfish) adjust the tap water to make sure the temp. is the same. Also, what size tank is important. Goldfish need a lot of water. You will likely loose the remaining tetras but your goldfish will regain their health if all goes well. That medicine will likely do the trick, and over time, the green will fade as you do water changes. I am not an expert, I keep both tetras and goldfish, though in different tanks. If they regain their health, those goldfish will grow big! Maybe someone here will more expertise can offer more directive help! Jennifer
