I have a similar tank, a 2.5g which I was running to film some timelapses with, then I placed it under one of my other tanks and has been there for about a year now… no fish in it, no water changes, just top-offs and the tank looks great!
I agree, if you have HOB filters with CO2 the easiest way to reduce CO2 loss is keep the water level high.
