Question about pump for 4,000 gal pond

Dennis, If you think the in-pond pumps (especially the ones putting out high water volumes) are quite, take the paper tube from a roll of paper towels, hold it to your ear, then stick the other end so it just barely goes into the water the pump is in. You’ll hear just how quiet they aren’t. They may be quiet to people outside of the pond, but they can be very noisy to the fish in the pond. I don’t know about most people, but hearing a continuous/steady drone of just about any noise gets pretty annoying after awhile.
As far as external pumps having to pull water up to them, that’s really not an issue if you plumb your system correctly. That’s the reason the why many of the external pumps come with a priming pot, and why you should always have a check valve installed on the filter/waterfall side or the pump impeller.
