Algae, like other plants take in CO2 and expel O2 during the photosynthesis process which happens during the day. At night, if the water is warm, low O2 levels can be a problem for the fish so it’s important to keep the water circulated, aerated and the surface agitated to allow for better gas exchange at the surface.
Sweetkiss36,
Tell us more about your pond. DO NOT throw chemicals at the algae problem yet until we know more about the ecology of your pond. What size is it? How many fish? What size fish? How long has it been up and running?
