As some of you will remember I had posted with strange bumps on one of my koi. Thank you Sue for pointing me in the direction of koi pox, I believe you were right. Not long after another of my koi also came down with the same type of bumps, but more pronounced and looked very much like the pictures I have found of it. Sue, I think you were also very polite for not pointing out that the prime issue with koi pox is usually filtration. Gee, guess what I hadn’t checked the filter in a while…. Anyway, now a few weeks later, the lesions have disappeared completely from the first victim and diminished on the second.
The other point of the matter is, I do have a small pond for koi (about 1000g) and therefore, my husband has now come up with the brilliant idea of expanding, to bad it’s him that has to dig(:
Thanks for the good info!
Lori
Lori, I think we may have misunderstood a few things back then. Lack of good filtration usually isn’t the cause of koi pox, but instead it is a virus that is brought on often by cold or cooler water temps. Once the water warms up it typically goes away. It is only somewhat contagious since it is a virus. Ah ha!! A new pond in the making!!! WONDERFUL!! Please keep us updated with photos so we can enjoy the ride as well!! Sue
