[Ponds-Koi] Question, problem with my pond.
Here are some quick things to do and to check
1. Stop feeding 2. test your source water for amonia 3. are you using any kind of amonia binder (amquel etc) 4. How old is the tank? How old is the filter media?
Are the fish stressed, have reddended fins or show any signs they are in trouble. Koi between 10 and 20″ need a MINIMUM of 250 to 400 gallons each for long term care. Koi over 20″ need closer to 500 gallons each. When you mention a “1600 gallon filter” how many gallons capacity does it have? Short term care of 5 koi over 12″ in a 650 gallon tub would need somewhere around 50 to 100 gallons of filtration and a 1200 gallon pump as a minimum. Do you have any water circulation and/or aeration in the tub?
