[Ponds-Koi] Priming external pond pump
David, attached is a picture of my pond. The pump is located behind the tree. Do I need two check valve, one coming out of the pond and the other before the leaf basket? also, can I just use the water hose to fill up the leaf basket? Thanks for your help

Where is the pump in relation to the water level in the pond? Is it above or below and by how much? If it is above the pond water level it will be harder to prime. If you have gate valves leading to the leaf basked and on the other side of the pump it will make it easier. Assuming you have the pump above the pond water level you need to pour water into the leaf basket and start the pump and try to force as much water as possilble into the leaf basket. You will need a 5 gallon bucket to put enough water into the leaf basket. Quickly close up the leaf basket and see if the prime takes and it starts pumping. It may take a bit to get the air processed through the pump. Idealy the pump and leaf basket should be below the pond water line and priming is automatic as the pond will flood the leaf basket.
