Koi Fish Information Centre

Well I have had my pond now for 5 years and its in the backyard i live in the city so we have city water. it does get alot of sun and that is where alot come from but i have been adding plants to the pond i have nice lilly pads growing now and catails and in mid summer frogs from around the area come in and its funny like seems like one day in July they just show up and you see little frogs in the pond and they all seem to get along with the fish and are all happy go lucky. the fish are tame even if i put my hand in the pond the fish will come up and let me pet them just about and i can feed them from my hands. The pond has a 3 step waterfall too that i made myself too and have a nice pump system to bring the water up to flow down the waterfall. I put the pump inside this filter so it helps keep the pump clean. I am guessing with 10,000 gallons of water if i just put less then a cup in just to test it i dont think it would have an affect like if i would of put the whole thing in. I think the water will delute it so to speak. I dont really put alot of fertilizer in back. Front yard i will put lawn and flower stuff to help boost it up in the spring to get it nice and green and the flowers blooming. back yard i have nice flowers too and i put the little sticks in each pot that helps with growth. I live in cold weather state of Minnesota so now its warm and hot and then in fall and winter when ice comes well before ice comes in i move the fish into a big tank in basement and have been doing that now for 5 years and have not lost a fish yet. the Koi that i have are getting nice and big too. the gold fish seem to do well. In the tanks in house i get those fish that you can get that eat all the stuff off the bottom to keep tank clean and wonder if they would do ok in the pond like if i put a few in the pond would that help keep pond clean or not?   Joe Joe
