PH ??
What are the water parameters of each pond? What kinds of decorations, rocks, stones, etc. do you have in the outside ponds?
What is your baseline parameters on your tap water? You don’t want to just test it out the tap but rather fill up a 1G+ container, run all of the tests that you have. Test the same water at 24 hours and 48 hours. This will give you a better idea of what will happen to your water once it gets into your pond/tank. Most public utilities add buffers to raise the pH while it’s flowing through the pipes so the water isn’t acidic which would damage the pipes. Once these buffers are exposed to light and air, the water parameters usually will change. Light affects lots of chemicals as does exposure to air. It’s why most medicine bottles are dark colored and why many begin to lose their potency once opened. You should contact your water utility to find out what they are using to buffer the water and to what level they are raising it to so you will also see what happens to the water from the time it leaves the plant to when it comes out of your tap.
If it does end up being 8.6 pH and only 1dH for KH and GH. I’m presuming the 17.9 isn’t your dH… or is it? There are two ways to cite hardness levels… either dH (degrees of Hardness) and ppm (parts per million) so you should list one of those identifiers so we can be on the same page.
Which pond.. inside or outside.. is the GH and KH raising up so much higher than out the tap?
