My pump keeps plugging!
On my blog, I have a link to DIY Pond Pre-Filter which has a couple of different examples of DIY pre-filters. I just came across this site http://www.mvwgs.org/filter.htm also which has a similar type of pre-filter and I need to add this link to my blog page. For the pump size shown on that page, I’d probably go with something larger than a milk crate and I’d want the pump intake in the middle of the pre-filter, rather than at the top corner as shown in their photos.
I have used either the slotted plant baskets or milk crates for mini-ponds that have a small pump for a spitter or fountain. I also would use gravel in the base of the smaller pre-filters to weigh them down and then add bunches of Anacharis around the top edge of the pre-filter to help camouflage it in a mini-pond.
