Melafix vs. Pimafix
Hi everyone,
I wonder if someone would please help me understand what is the difference between Pimafix and Melafix? In particular, I would like to know what sort of problems each is most effective with. I am aware that some people feel that both of these preparations are useless and others think they are great. I used Pimafix on my guppies who had developed a slight case of fungus and was satisfied with my results that time (thanks to Lenny.)
As you may have read in my post about 3-4 days ago, I am concerned about two of my M. boesemani rainbowfish. Each (a male and a female) has a small disturbed area of scales. Nothing looks really bad (yet) but I don’t want to chance a big problem. My ammonia is zero, nitrites zero, nitrates at the lowest measurable level. I don’t neglect their water, I vacuum the substrate with water changes, it’s a planted tank that otherwise seems to be thriving, if I may say so.
The temperature stays steadily around 82-83 degrees F, I have extra aeration in addition to a pair of hang-on-the-back filters, and I try hard to do a good job with this tank. I didn’t get a response to my previous posting of this concern so I am trying again. I am thinking of dosing the tank with one of these two API products as a way of gently preventing infection with these fish and their tankmates (other boesemanis, a pair of adult swordtails and approx. 5 fry, corydoras and otocinclus catfish and at least 1 glass shrimp (I thought it had perished, it’s been so long since I saw it). I would like to have healthy conditions for all the creatures.
Thanks, Beverly
Peace, please!
