Koi not eating and hiding
Hello all,
I’m new to the group, but have kept koi for over 20 years without many problems. My pond is approx 1000 gallons filtered with an Oase Biosys 3 system. The pond is stocked with 10 koi varying from 7-14″in length. The pond also contains a water lilly but no other plants (apart from a bit of blanket weed).
Recently I’ve had two of the larger fish die and two replacement small ones too. Now all bar 2 of them have taken to hiding down the bottom under the lilly are very shy and won’t eat anything. As it’s now weeks since they’ve eaten properly, I’m very worried about them but don’t know where to start helping them.
I’m not sure if it’s relevant but last year and this year the Lilly growth has exploded and I’ve had to remove leaves to keep the surface clear for the water to circulate. The lilly is planted in a solid box on legs so that it’s not too deep to grow.
The koi that died looked in good condition to my untrained eye.
Please can anybody advice me what to do to help them.
