[AquaticLife] Pleco
I saw in a follow-up post that the little guy died. Pleco’s are pretty tough little fish as a rule. I’ve read stories of them jumping out of a tank and being on the floor for hours and still be alive and get put back in the tank and act like nothing happened. Catfish in general are a very tough species.
Just to try and figure out what went wrong, how long did you have him?
I saw you had him in a 10G which is much too small for a long term home for a common pleco but I don’t think this is your problem. If you do get another one, they need at least 75G for themselves and that’s a bare minimum. 150G to 200G would be better since they grow to 18″ to 24″ long.
What other fish did you have in the 10G? (By the way.. for a good stocking suggestion list for 10G tanks, go to my blog and on the right side down in the Labels section, click on the “10G Tank Stocking Suggestions” and you’ll find a very detailed article listing almost all of the common tropical fish that can live long term in a 10G tank.
What were your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and temperature readings?
Has anything changed within the past few days with the tank? Any cleaning of the filters, etc.?
